Opportunity

As an RAF Air & Ground Steward you will work as Cabin Crew on the A330-200 Voyager aircraft and later as part of our Specialist Field catering Squadron or work alongside industry partners in Military Messes.

Description:

RAF LOGISTICS AIR & GROUND STEWARD - Level 3 Apprenticeship

Pay during first six months - £25,200 + benefits

Pay on completion of basic training & six months service* - £27,200 + benefits

*Until at least you have completed one year of service and successfully completed Professional Workplace Assessments on first posting.


APPLICANTS MUST:

  • Be aged 17.5 – 47 years old (Must attest before 48th birthday)
  • Have GCSEs at a minimum of Grade G (Grade 1 to 3) in English Language and Mathematics

  • Non-British/Commonwealth Citizens applying for Logistic Profession AGS are to be naturalised as a British citizen before entry to the service and hold a UK passport
  • Candidates must be within the height range of 161cm to 195cm
  • Commit to three years service post Phase Two training

Once fully trained in Catering Hospitality and RAF Cabin Crew duties you will be responsible for the comfort, safety and welfare of passengers travelling on 10 Sqn or 101 Sqn Voyager aircraft based at RAF Brize Norton. Your duties will include greeting passengers as they board and exit the plane, providing special attention to passengers as required. Serving meals and refreshments, checking the condition and provision of on-board emergency equipment and information for passengers, demonstrating emergency equipment and safety procedures. As well as administering first aid and dealing with passenger or crew emergencies.

  • Cabin Crew on the Royal Air Force A330-200 ‘Voyager’ Aircraft of 10 Sqn and 101 Sqn
  • Cabin Crew on the Royal Air Force BAe 146 aircraft of 32 (The Royal) Sqn
  • After your 1st flying tour you could also be part of our Specialist Field catering Squadron or work alongside our industry partners in Military Messes

The role of an air cabin crew member is to primarily ensure customers safety at all times whilst onboard the aircraft. They also provide excellent customer service to customers throughout the flight. They are trained to deal with security and emergency situations which may arise and can administer first aid to customers.

Other Information

INITIAL TRAINING:

Your career will start with a 10-week Basic Recruit Training Course at RAF Halton in Buckinghamshire. The course is designed to help you adjust to a military environment. As well as fitness and military training, you’ll also learn about the RAF lifestyle.


SPECIALIST TRAINING:

All entrants will complete specialist food service training at the Food Services Training School (Air) at Worthy Down, pre-employment land and sea survival training at Defence Survival Training Organisation, RAF St Mawgan. Decompression Training at the Aviation Medicine
Training Wing, RAF Henlow and A330-200 Cabin Crew training at the AirTanker Academy, RAF Brize Norton, before finishing their flying training with Sqn instructors on 10 Sqn/101 Sqn.


Due to the multiple agencies involved in this training it will take between 15–16 weeks to complete.



(QUALIFIED AGS) SPECIALIST TRAINING

After recruit training, you will still complete the specialist training course to familiarise yourself with A330-200 Cabin Crew duties and food service procedures. On successful completion of the specialist training, you will then qualify for immediate promotion to Senior Aircraftman.
